The most ridiculous Biggest Loser challenge yet

I could write an entire post about the first challenge on tonight's Biggest Loser because it was just that ridiculous in my mind. So I think I will.

For anyone who does not watch the Biggest Loser, I will try my best to explain the challenge.

On every Biggest Loser season, there comes a time when the individual teams of couples split up into two larger teams. Tonight's episode was the one in which the teams split, but that only happened after a grueling challenge in which contestants had to decide if they were willing to consume some massive calories in order to compete for the chance to determine who will be on which team.

Only two contestants decided to enter the competition: Drea and Mike. During the challenge, the two contestants had to pick hidden boxes that contained high caloric foods. If the foods in both chosen boxes matched, the other contestant had to eat the food one of the food items in the boxes. These foods included donuts, rice krispy treats, bagels, soft pretzels, etc. Also in the boxes were "golden tickets" and the contestant who found both ended up the winner.

But all that aside, I have a serious issue with this challenge. While the show is centered around a contest, it is moreso centered around helping people lose weight-or at least I thought. By forcing contestants to consume over 2,000 calories in one sitting-competition or not- the show is defeating its own very purpose of helping the contestants lose weight. The mere principle of this challenge should be frowned upon by the show's producers.

But maybe it's just me getting bent out of shape for no reason. What do YOU think? Does this challenge help or hurt contestants on the show?
